Chapter 1
1. What problems or conflicts are presented in chapter one? Tao needing to find a rabbit is an obvious one; identify at least two more.
2. Predict the resolution of each conflict.
1. He wants to draw but, only chosen ones can draw in the caves.
He can't hunt animals like bear so, he only hunts rabbits and feild mice
1. I think that he will just draw on the foor or go to the cave and paint.
I do not think that there is a resolution for that problem, because of his bad foot.
Chapter 2
What two important events happen in this chapter?
The two important events that happened in the chapter are that the wolf can finally eat because of Toa took out the splinter in his mouth. And Toa got lost in the slough woods he thinks he is going to run into a evil spirit.
Chapter 3
1. What do Tao and Ram learn to do together?
They learn how to hunt.
2. What decision does Tao tell Volt?
He tells him he wants to hunt by himself.
3. Look at Tao's decisions and actions from Volt's perspective. Pretend you are Volt. Write a first person paragraph explaining how you feel.
Volt thinks that he it is bad for him to hunt alone. I Volt am worried that the clan will not get eough food because of Tao is not going to bring any food.
Chapter 4
In a good paragraph, describe Tao's mother. Start with an interest grabber. Then write your topic sentence. Give three details or examples to support your thesis. Use a quotation from the chapter.
It is sad that Tao never knew a great mom. She died to save Tao. Again and again they tried to take you away, but she fought like a cave lion, sreaming, biting, refusing to give you up.
Chapter 5
1. Which two animals does Tao try to draw?
He tries to drew a horse and Ram the wolf.
2. Which is easier for him and why?
The wolf is easier because the Ram is in front of him and he can see what he is trying drawing and not just remember what Ram looks like.
Chapter 6
1. Graybeard realizes that Tao has broken two taboos of his clan. What are they?
He hunts with a wolfdog and goes to forbidden land.
2. Which taboo doesn't he know about yet?
He dosen't know that that Tao draws on walls
3. Graybeard describes Volt differently than we have. What aspects of Volt's character is Graybeard acknowledging?
He acknowledging that Volt is a good man.
Chapter 7
Write your reaction to the last paragraph in the chapter. Do you agree or disagree with Graybeard? Is what he says true for those times, but not now? Or, is the reverse true: was it not true then, but true now
I agree with Graybead because it is taboo.
It is not okay to brake taboos.
Chapter 8
An important theme in this novel is that people should follow their dreams and do what they believe is right, even if they don't follow their society's expected ways.
The author examines this theme in a stone age setting. Imagine a similar situation today.
